May 2014 Kokanko was on a US tour from Mali, West Africa, when she came to perform and speak at Asheville’s Hanger Hall. During her talk she mentioned that she had always loved the guitar and hoped to play one day, but wasn’t able to afford one. When our voice teacher, Whitney heard this, she gave us a call and Give to the Music presented Kokanko with an acoustic guitar to take home. We hope KoKanko will come play for us next time she’s on tour!
